I recently accepted a position as an "admissions counselor" with an online university. I attended a wonderful two-week training session in which we were told that the position was under no circumstances a sales job, but to enroll interested potential students that had reached out to the school for information. It was made clear that we were to make outbound calls in response to these requests. However, the job was nothing more than a telemarketing job, where in most cases I was hung up on, cursed and yelled at. There were implied call quotas and hard sell tactics employed. I feel as though the nature of the position was misrepresented. I explicitly told the hiring manager that I was not a salesman, and he assured me it was not a sales job. I have since resigned. Do I have any recourse? And what would that be?
