JJ Abrams Star Trek

Simon Pegg as Scotty? Dear God, what are they thinking?

I think Zachary Quinto will be a good choice for Spock. Not sure about Eric Bana but I haven't seen him in anything other than the Hulk.

Anton Yelchin, John Cho and Zoe Saldana I've never heard of.

I wonder how well this project will go down with the Trek fan base. I wasn't a big fan of Abrams's Lost and Alias - has he ever brought a project to the big screen successfully? Could be a repeat of what happened with the ThunderbirRAB movie, or worse, The Avengers.

Pegg may not be so funny in movies he doesn't write - Run Fatboy Run wasn't as good as Shaun Of The Dead or Hot Fuzz for example.

Well, he had a hand in Armageddon ("Adaptation by Tony Gilroy and Shane Salerno. Story by Robert Roy Pool and Jonathan Hensleigh. Screenplay by Jonathan Hensleigh and J.J. Abrams"), and Mission: Impossible III was not a flop in the eyes of Paramount... although series fans beg to differ.

I have to say I loved MI3 and I think its a great action film but I cant understand why it didnt do well at the box office maybe it was down to Tom Cruise!
Talking of Tom Cruise according to Empire's website he has denied claims that he will cameo in the new Star Trek film:

"At last night's Lions For Lambs premiere at the Times BFI London Film Festival, we asked Cruise if the internet rumours that he'll be cameoing as first Enterprise captain Christopher Pike in JJ Abrams Star Trek were true. To which he peered bemusedly from beneath his back-to-school haircut. "What? No, I'm not in that," he said. We had to explain to him that the internets were saying he was going to appear. "Nope. It's just rumour".

;18863387']I think this will be a suck it ans see film. It certainly seems that they are trying hard to make it a good film, but seeing different actors in very well established roles may just be a bit too much to take.

I actually liked MI:III, certainly better than MI:II. That said all three of the Mission Impossible films included a mole or turncoat agent - either IMF has the worst security in the world or there was a serious lack of imagination in the script writing department.

As for Pegg - not sure, but is it going to stop me seeing the movie - unlikely although I may wait until after the holiday before actually seeing it. Was not sure when I heard it but doohan's family seem to think it is a good idea, why not wait and see.

that's the big gamble, as long as they stay true to TOS and don't start remaking classic episodes, then by rights they will be okay.
it will be when people want the new crew to remake more classic TOS, is when the problems will occur.
imagine The Doomsday Machine on the big screen, with todays CGI (excluding CBS update) this would look killer, but would we get the same feel for the characters and would we like seeing classic pivotal scenes, recreated by todays lot?
of course this deabte will run on and on, but now they have opened the gates, there is no going back....

Yeah and they have her listed as Spock's 'vulcan' mother. Spock's mother was always human. I know this film is more of a re-luanch than a prequel, but it would have been nice if it was made in such a way that continuity allowed fans to decide if it is connected to previous ST incarnations.

I'm dead excited about this! :D I didn't know Jennifer Morrison was in it!! Good for her! And us, she's fab!

Don't knock Nemisis though, it wasn't that bad! Nothing with PAtrick Stewart in a leading role could possibly be terrible.
