JJ Abrams Star Trek film - Here's the "Enterprise"

I'm a trekkie, actually I'm a sci-fi nut but I love Star Trek, TNG and RAB9. But one of the things that's disappointed me about the latter years of "the Franchise" is how colourless it had all become. TNG and especially TOS were bright, colourful shows. The uniforms were bright and colourful, the aliens had variety (less so in TNG) and the universe felt interesting. Then came Voyager and Enterprise. They sucked the colour away from Trek. Dull uniforms, a ship interior that was more akin to a submarine than Trek and a far too topic slant about terrorism (and Trek was supposed to be escapism not social comment on current American policies).

So with that all said I'm really impressed with many of the things I've seen about the new Trek film. The colour is back in both the uniforms and the bridge. And the Enterprise.. modern yet retro.

So far things are looking good to me, but then Doctor Who looked great until I actually saw it :). Time will tell but optimism is high at the moment.

Actually the last film made for the fans was First Contact and that did extreamly well. The Last two however have been targeted at the mainstream audience hence the lack of a Dominion war plot in Insurection and the over the top action Nemesis at the expense of a coherent story. American mainstream networks are too fickle now days for Star Trek look at Heroes,Prison Break,Day Break,Sarah Conner Chronicals,Angel,Firefly, and Enterprise it self all are or were struggling to keep the "mainstream" audience amused. Seriously I believe DVD is the way to go like Stargate is doing. Some of these can cater for a more mainstream audience and may be shown on a major network serving as an access point to the franchise much like the Doctor Who Xmas specials are intended for anyone not just series regulars

It's no defiant but it'll do....;)

How long will this fan uproar last anyway? The fans of Batman got on with the rebooting of their franchise, the same with Bond....why not Trek?

Will there be uproad if the Nacelles move position when it enters warp? Or if the warp effect doesn't look identical to the cheesy shite warp trails of the TOS movies (ewww!)

Can we all just stop fretting over the "little" stuff and give this film a chance...or at least just agree to shut up about it until it's in the cinema?

I'm only refering to reputations, I reckon William Hurt,Heather Graham,Gary Oldman and Matt Le Blanc are bigger names than the cast for this movie other than the baddie out of Heroes and Pegg(miscast or what?) I know practically non of the core cast.

Well, JJ Abrams has been given the role to make a Star Trek film. In this new prequel vision of his, everything that I've seen just disregarRAB over 40 years of Star Trek shows & films.

It's the same name, the same basic character and iconic ship names. But that's where it enRAB. JJ's remake is not a film in which I'll be embracing as Star Trek.

We've seen descriptions of scenes, the new characters and new ship design. But I wonder who'll be the voice of the new Enterprise. How about Pamela Anderson?

From what I can see it has got the right mix of the 60s tv show look, eg the uniforms.
The modern day feel with the car, and the right level of special FX.
So hopefully it hasnt made the same mistake Enterprise made, by feeling set in a more advanced future, even though it was before the original Star Trek time.

They need to get over their hatred of Star Trek and actually put out some goddam animations for a change!
(Or was that Scifi-Art....it probably was, never seen such a display of arrogance on a forum, shame they had the most talent, in a way...)

Anyway, regarding the trailer it looks exciting and action packed etc. But then Trailers usually do.
I'm dissapointed they kept the cheesy cartoony movie-era warp effect judging by the early scenes, but the rest of the SFX looks good, even if the other ship that isn't the Enterprise looks ug-er-lyyyy, thank goodness it's about to be destroyed! :p
And is that the transporter effect around Syl-ock early on in the film? Not exactly traditional that one!

And Simon Pegg's accent isn't as cheesy as Doohan's was! :D

It looks perfectly fine, but let's not let that get in the way of a good bit of J.J. bashing by those of you who are on that particularly vehement bandwagon.
