Hello all,
Well, I had an eventful two weeks...I had to go to ER because the pain in my right-leg was unbearable and unrelenting one night (was awake 1-2.30am, then from 5am til I got to hospital at midday). They gave me morphine for the pain and I had a new CT scan done (last MRI (5mths post op) was feb 2008, xray Aug 2008 showed instability). All my problems were always on the left (herniation at L5/S1, 2 unsuccessful decompression ops), but it seems from the scan that there's nothing new happening on the right and that all the nerve pain on the right is coming from the slippage, which is getting worse (gross instability is how they describe it).
So, they ended up keeping me in for 2 weeks
while I had a brace fitted ...(I'm supposed to be either upright with the brace - I can manage 10mins usually - or lying down) and dosed me with anti-inflammatories, pain relief etc...
Well, the upshot is that finally things are moving a bit quicker on the medical side, and I've finally learned that I should be doing absolutely zilch around the house. I've to make an appointment to see a new orthopaedic surgeon and I just hope he's good and I can get the operation sorted sooner rather than later. Also got the names of two more surgeons further afield for second opinions.
Can't really believe I let myself get into this situation. The latest was that I was looking for a new surgeon and in the meantime following doctor's orders to get some proper physio...it was frustrating as I knew I needed the op and things were worse, but noone here in France was listening....seems they're all listening now. The doctors on the ward I was in were fantastic and really pushed to get things moving.
Well, I hope everyone else is well....if you're reading this Diet...seems i'm going to be following you into the operating room again - this is getting really spooky now!
Take care all,
