I found a 1998 Jeep Wrangler Sport 4.0L V6 with just under 78,000 miles on it at a local auto dealership today for $9,995. Does this sound like a relatively good price for the vehicle? The low mileage is unbelievable, I don't want to miss an opportunity to snatch up a very nice Jeep if it is a good deal!
My mistake, that should be I6, not V6

for that price it better have no rust, new tires, brakes, all fluid changed, have some nice upgrades. i bought a 98 dodge dakota 318 5.2 v8 4x4 73,000miles great interor and barely any rust execpt for a very small amount on bumper, had all new brakes and fresh oil change, and antifreez flush, tires wore about 85-90% tread left. got it for 5,500

you are paying too much for that vehicle, because is an 11 year old vehicle, the most that I'll pay for it would be $6,000.

No, KBB.com puts the value of that vehicle at 8,450.

When ever you buy a car you can check kelly blue book and edmunds for suggested price.

I also cross reference autotrader, craigslist(all surrounding areas), local classifieds, and ebay to get the most accurate market assessment. My buddies at work will actually write scripts to comb autotrader for all like assessed vehicles and perform a statistical assesment of the market for particular vehicles.

Short answer how ever is no 9995 is not a good price.

On KBB.com you can select value assessments based on retail(dealers), private party, and trade-in criteria. Usually a good price from a dealer is the price between trade in value and private party value.

Unless you have uncanny faith or trust in the dealer there is no reason to ever pay more than private party value.

Get your own financing, however you can get financed before you go to the dealer and only speak with the dealer in terms of cash amount payed.

In your case under 9000 will probably be a good deal for you.

Beat the dealer to his little tricks.....you say "MY offer is only good today", "I have to check with my spouse to see if he/she will agree to this offer(i just made)" "I have to be able to feed my children man", i got to be able to put food on the table" Beat the dealer to all those little phrases, there is no reason you should pay what they want for it and not fair market VALUE.
Good luck!

first off it is not a v6 they didn't go to a v6 until the current wrangler. the tj's(97-06) were an inline 6cyl. and for that price it better have a nice lift and many aftermarket upgrades. if it is just bone stock walk away becuase it is a ripoff.
