...to turn over? I have a jeep, and sometimes it will start, sometimes it won't. Sometimes when I try to start it, it is just dead and nothing happens, other times there is a rapid clicking noise coming from somewhere in the car, but the engine does not try to turn over. I know there could be many thing making this happen, but I was wondering if maybe there is a dead cell in the battery so the alternator is not getting enough power to recharge the battery? Is this possible/likely? Thank you so much
I have not been able to start it today period. It just makes the rapid clicking sound, but that is it.

Have you tried to jump-start it? What happened?
If the battery is weak you would have the same symptoms, but is it bad battery or bad alternator. The best way to find out is to charge the battery and try to start the vehicle. If it starts, unhook the negative terminal. If the vehicle stays running, replace the battery. If the vehicle dies, replace the alternator. If the vehicle does not start even jumping it, replace the starter.

Good luck.

After the additional details you posted.
If you couldn't get to start Today, and the battery was fully charged, then replace the starter.
