I recently bought a 1995 Jeep Wrangler S with a 4.0 inline 6 and automatic transmission. I just turned 16 and do not have much experience with mechanical issues. There are a few things I've noticed about my jeep that have begun to worry me.
1st- When driving down the road, the car doesn't want to shift into 4th gear (I believe that's accurate). I accelerate up to 35 mph and the rpms hold at just above 2500 and the engine runs very loud. I can get it to shift most of the time by putting the car in neutral then back to drive. This problem occurs mainly when the engine is cold. What could be causing this?
2nd- The engine has a slight "ticking" noise. It is there when idling at a stop and when just coasting down the road. I've heard all Jeep engines have a slight tick but this is very noticeable. Should I be worried?
3rd- I've begun to notice a "squeaking" noise in the front end of my Jeep. I hear it especially on bumpy roads and when traveling slowly with the wheel turned (like in a parking lot). It does occur sometimes when going approximately 30 mph on bumpy/rough roads (I live in Iowa- even Cedar Rapids' city roads suck). What could make this squeak?
I know there are tons of you Jeep experts out there, so please help out a new Jeep owner!
