jeep liberty electrical problem?

i have an 05 Liberty. today, i noticed that the left directional stays on constantly. this only happens when it is running, and the headlights are on. the problem goes away when i shut the lights off. Also, when i bought this jeep, the trailer lights would only work when they want to, and i never fixed it because i dont have a trailer. Do you think think these problems are related? if so can i disconnect the trailer lights? the box the trailer wires plug into is warm to the touch
