Jeep Grand Cherokee sputtered, check engine light came on, but engine stays

on... whats the deal? So I was driving last night and my 2000 Grand Cherokee straight 6 started sputtering and the check engine light came on. I pulled over and turned the vehicle off. I waited a second and turned it back on and it was running fine. I got home and realized the coolant is getting lower. Could the coolant be mixing with the gas somehow? Please let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks!

OK, actually, I better add this in. It didn't start sputtering until I hit the brakes and started slowing down at a light if that matters.
