jeep grand cherokee gas?

i feel like me jeep gr cherokee is sucking gas down way faster than it should. It is the 4.7l v8 so i dont expect it to get good gas mileage, but im starting to get concerned when i burn an eighth of a tank taking a trip to town and back. What are possible problems or is this just the horrible gas mileage gr cherokees get? also there is no visible gas leaks or anything of that nature.

also, would adding a flowmaster exhaust do anything for my gas mileage or just make it sound cool? thanks!
a sensor meaning.... like the gas gauge sensor? sorry i am not extremely good with cars.
 
Flowmaster will sound cool, but a bad sensor can cause milage to go down as well as air filters. I'd start with sensors and filters before getting a flowmaster ;)
