jeep cherokee oil pan gasket replacement?

How do you replace a oil pan gasket in 1995 jeep cherokee inline 6. I have the engine out and hanging from chain hoist.Can you use RTV sealant and seal it to the engine block then attach the pan.I heard you cant use sealant on oil pan gasket. I tried the first time putting it on the oil pan first but couldnt get a proper allignment to the front and back seals by the timing belt
