I have a Jeep Cherokee 2000 4dr Sport without the infinity sound option.

I am trying to find out the speaker size and have seen people saying both 6.5 and 5.25 in the front - which is it? Also, I have seen 5.25 in the back most frequently so I think that's true.

Can't find a reliable answer and don't wanna tear up the car or buy stuff that doesn't fit

thanks

Here's the deal: the Cherokee uses a 2-hole, oversize 5.25" speaker that doesn't have an exact match in the after-market. A typical 5.25" speaker will fit without a problem, but you'll have to tap in new mounting screws, and there will probably be a small gap around the outside edge because the mounting hole is too large. On the other hand, some 6.25" speakers will fit, and some won't. If it's a fairly shallow-mount 6.25" speaker, you can usually make it fit without a problem. Others may fit with a little modification of the mounting hole, or with the use of a thin spacer; and others might not fit easily at all.

Usually the safest option is to purchase a good-quality 5.25" speaker, and build an adapter plate or find another way to seal the gap around the outside edge. For example, it's a good idea to use a damping sheet like Dynamat when you mount the speaker, and then it's easy to leave a little extra to cover the opening.

By the way, if your stock speaker isn't working (especially in the driver's door) the problem most likely isn't in the speaker. It's caused by a break in the speaker wire, in the conduit that runs between the door and the vehicle body. This is an extremely common problem with the Cherokee around your model year.

Yeah 5.25 in the back.
I check on crutchfield.com which they outfit your car to tell you what fits, and it only gave me the rear speaker size.Peace.
