tjj34: It DOESN'T HEAL!!!! Sorry to say. You can try going to either the dentist or an oral surgeon and getting an opinion on getting it operated on. I prefer the non-operation myself. Who's to say they'll fix it right. You could end up with worse problems if it's not done right.

I wear a nightguard because I also grind my teeth. I wish there were an easy fix for it but there's not.

I was using my computer, my jaw lying down on my hand with my mouth open big. I suddenly like feel like my jaw crack like you know people crack their fingers. I like crack my jaw (left side). Then from that day until now (1 day already), if I open my mouth too big, I will feel a pain from my left side of the jaw. You know when you close your mouth, you will just straightly close it. I cannot when I open too big. My jaw to move a bit to the right side then back to the left then close it.

So wth is wrong with me. Do I have a dislocated jaw?? =X

tjj34: I think I jinxed myself. A few hours ago I got wicked dizzy and then felt the jaw pain like I've never felt it before. It was aching all the way up the right side of my neck and face. I finally had to take a ibuprofen to try to get the pain to go down.

I was thinking about you and your problems, and me trying to help you out, and then it got me too. I wasn't even doing anything, it just happened. Wouldn't it be wonderful if the body is fixing itself in my case and correcting the jaw? I could only be so lucky. I hope you've found some relief.

tjj34: You could have dislocated it but it sound more like TMJ. There's a separate board on here for TMJ - It's the temporal mandibular joint (sp)! I have it and I just live with it. I ended up getting it after I had my wisdom teeth out in the hospital. They must have pryed my jaw open and damaged it. Some people end up having it operated on if it's a severe case. You dentist could tell you if you have it or not.

Awwwwww! Will it heal? I hate the feeling.....

Note: I just fix a typo in my first post. Could you confirm once more if it is a TMJ?

Actually I don't feel painful when doing normal stuRAB like yawning, eating or drinking. I can open my month and close it like normal. The only difference is when I open way to big, like the max size that even when yawning you don't open that big, then I close my mouth, then it will have a bit pain. Not painful through. Then when closing from that big, then my mouth when turn right then back to left again. Normally it will not turn.

However, when I open and close my mouth normally (not until very big), my left ear have a bit itch feeling, a bit pain.

tjj34: I've had this TMJ for over 30 years. I had braces as a kid and then when I had to have my wisdom teeth out I had it done in the hospital and they put me under anethesia and they must have had to pry my jaw open and I've had it ever since that operation!!!!!!!!!!!! It still hurts right now but not as bad as yesterday!! You think it's funny?!!!! I felt like I was going to pass out. I have seizures on top of everything!!!!!!!!!!!

yes.......... it sounds like TMJ. I can't open my mouth wide at the dentist office because of it. I can't chew gum, eat alot of nuts or things that require alot of chewing. It's annoying. If it's really aggravating you then you need to get it xrayed or checked out to make sure it's nothing else.

There is a lot of good information on the TMJ board here. There is a good sticky towards the top of the board with a list of TMJ symptoms.

You need to see a good functional orthodontist, preferrably one who specializes in neuromuscular dentistry. While there is no cure, there are treatments that help many people.

Also, a good PT who is trained to work with TMJ can be really helpful in dealing with the muscle spasms in the face, neck and shoulder.

LOL I think so too.
I read about it.

Symptoms
*Pain or tenderness in the face, jaw joint area, neck and shoulders, and in or around the ear when you chew, speak or open your mouth wide

OH YEAH my shoulders started to ache too.

*Limited ability to open the mouth very wide
Yeah too big have the stupid right left thing.

*Clicking, popping, or grating sounds in the jaw joint when opening or closing the mouth (which may or may not be accompanied by pain)
Ya. I heard that.

*Difficulty chewing or a sudden uncomfortable bite as if the upper and lower teeth are not fitting together properly

Ya. My back left teeth like never bite.

So, how to does it takes to heal?
