Japanese/English electronic dictionary?

I've been using DS's kanji sono mama (?????? DS????), which has been great for quite some time. However, I've recently started translation classes at university, and I'm discovering that the DS dictionary no longer has quite the range of vocab I need, and I'm not allowed to use online dictionaries for exams.

Does anybody have any recommendations of electronic dictionaries released this or last year? An explanation of good and bad points of each model recommended would be appreciated.
