Jailbreaking a Iphone 3gs? (SOS)?

Well i have a iphone 3GS and i over hear a person talking about jailbreaking his iphone 3gs and they said it is a bad idea to jailbreak a 3gs so my question is it a good idea to jailbreak a iphone 3gs
