I'm moving to Canada for school and am currently wondering what to do about my cell service. AT&T's international plans are way too expensive for my taste, plus any people I meet in Canada will certainly not want to pay fees to call an American number.
Right now I'm thinking my best option is to jail-break the iPhone that I already have (3GS, for reference) and get a Canadian plan/simcard.
Since I have fairly little experience in this realm, I was looking for guidance on what exactly this process entails. If I jailbreak the phone and purchase a new plan/simcard from say, Rogers or Telus, will I be able to use their 3G networks without error? When I return to the US will I be able to pop my American simcard back in and have my AT&T service resumed?
Any advice or experiences with jail-breaking the iPhone for international use are welcomed. Thanks!
TallestSkil: Thanks for the heads up, I did mean unlocking but got the terms confused. Essentially I'm looking for details on how to make my phone available for international service providers and how that would work.
