Jackie Chan Adventure was a treat for the JC fan in me, but the excitement lasted only for a good two and a half seasons. The first two were solid affairs (baring some really boring fillers in Season Two in mind) that did well to work the action, plot, humor, and gradual character development over the course of the series.
However I realized sometime in the halfway zone of Season Three that this was ultimately a formulaic series with little in the way of difference or development for its characters. It amounted to nothing but "search the MacGuffin before the Big Bad" does. I suppose kids and/or devoted fans may have infinite patience to enjoy it, but the tedium grew too much for me. I managed to make it through Season Three, struggled through Season Four, and barely managed to finish Season Five, skipping episodes and making it in time to see the somewhat passable series finale.
Lest off of, it also introduced Jade Chan who remained a bothersome nuisance throughout the show. She started off promising in the Season Two premiere when she caught the vase from falling due to her trainings from Jackie - a sign of character growth - but she reminded the same hyperactive, annoying, forceful little brat that had no listening skills whatsoever. Imagine my relief when "J2", the only worthwhile Season Four episode in my opinion, aired. Too bad its sequel wasn't nearly as good.
In short, a series that I thought was very good and VERY hilarious to watch for the first couple of runs, but slowly got repetitive and boring over the years. I don't know, perhaps the results are simply from me growing up, forcing me to mature and find different shades of what I want in cartoons by then. After all, it first aired when I was 14 and I was pretty much done with High School when it ended.
Personally, I thought he was just a whiny teenager-ish dragon boy who had daddy issues. He failed to be as threatening or awesome as Shendu and I wanted so badly for him to have just remain a one-note character. Instead they had to bring him back for Season Five. In short, I didn't like him.
