I will see you in a little bit! We completed the install last night at about 7:30 pm. The installation took longer than expected, but Al just wanted to make sure your bike was done right. We tested the speakers with the amp and it sounded just perfect!

We took pics of the install after it was completed showing the relocation of the XM module as well as the finished wiring routing we had to do. We also took pictures of the dynamat we used instead of the J&M acoustic foam for better fairing fitment. I will post all of those pics shortly.

Thanks!

Shawn

Here are pics of StanfordMan's 09 Street Glide J&M Amp Install:

We replaced the J&M acoustic foam with Dynamat Extreme to make fairing fitment much easier, not to mention Dynamat Extreme is our choice when doing J&M speaker and J&M amp installs, especially on Ultras.

Al putting on the finishing touches before we put the fairing back together! Nicely shows off the Dr. V-Twin t-shirt! 3rd Gen shirts should be released in about 2-3 weeks from now. Just finalizing the graphic changes.

Thanks!

IMO. I have had to upgrade a few stereo’s in my time, just to get a decent sound and have spent a few dollars to say the least. I have to say for the improvement I have heard from the combo upgrade (to my 08 SG) of J&M 7.25 and there new AMP for less than $600. It is the best bag for my buck yet (especially with the plug and play aspect). I’m not so into how loud can it be without distorting. I like how full the sound is at the lower levels now( and through the whole range) compared to stock. NOW I do not NEED to ”crank it up” just trying to hear all aspects of the music playing. I mean come on, It’s funny to read some of the expectations for sound that’s expected from two small speakers mounted in a plastic enclosure blaring into the wide open atmosphere. With that said, J&M has exceeded my expectations, especially for less than $600 dollar and the install was one of the easiest things I have had to do on my bike. It took me longer to remove & replace the tank and outer fairing then to install the speakers and amp. Also I had some left over Dynamat (from insolating my interior of my loud diesel pushing truck) and used that also, instead of the J&M foam. I don’t know if that helped with the sound, but I thought it would help with the fitment, like DR. V said. Hey DR you mounted the speaker pins in the correct position this time. HAHA

Picked up my bike this morning from Shawn at Dr. V-Twin. Even though the shop is normally closed for service on Saturday, Shawn came in so I could get my bike. First of all, the bike was as clean as when I brought it in, which I really appreciate. The sound is spactacular. Much more volume, with better sound quality.I pretty much use my XM Radio exclusively, but Shawn popped in a CD so I could hear the sound of a CD. While the XM sounds great, the CD sounded even better. With the XM Radio Kit, the J&M Speakers, and now the amp, I have a fair amount of coin puT into the bike for my radio. But I love the result, so it is worth it to me; and Shawn and Dr. V-Twin are great to work with.

Just got back from Laughlin Harley Run and had a chance to listen to the amp at the J&M truck.

I already have the speakers and was really excited to hear them with the amp.

The amp is an improvement for sure but only up to about 70% volume. Anything above that and there was a Ton of distortion! Why the J&M rep kept turning it up that loud to show off how horrible it sounded that loud I have no idea? Dont get me wrong Im not planning on listening to it at full volume I just assumed the sound would be clear up a little higher than that.

They were offering 10% off "show price" but it was still $70 dollars more than Dr V Twin's price.

The sound distortion that JASNUSC describes certainly doesn't apply to my bike. Shawn had me turn the volume up all the way, and the sound quality was amazing. The bike was outside, and it was deafening with no distortion. Even though we were outside in front of a public thoroughfare, it was so loud that I was get worried that people might start compaining. But there was no cracking or degradation of the sound whatsoever that I could detect. Before I had the amp installed, I could play the radio at a high volume to hear it better over the noise of the bike and wind, and the sound was great with the J&M 7.25" speakers. But with the amp, there is just a more crisp and clearer depth of sound at the high volume. Again, not sure what JASNUSC was listening to, but that doesn't apply to my bike.

Most likely, J&M had the bass cranked up to the max. You may get distortion at that bass level, but we recommend no more than 5 bars of bass and about 2-4 bars on the treble and the sound will be loud, crisp, clean, rich with the depth of sound that is really awesome! No distortion on my bike either. I am sure J&M wanted to really show the bass performance off, but in effect and depending on the type of music, it may just have been too much bass. At 5 bars of bass, I still get enough bass to shake the inner fairing and handlebars, but no distortion and I run my volume at 100% all the time. That is odd.

I invite you to come on down to the shop sometime soon for a sound demo and you can see first hand how great the speakers and amp sound on my Street Glide without any distortion at all.

Shawn

Yeah I checked that. The Bass and Treble were right in the Middle and there was a lot of distortion. It was the J&M rep playing it for me so you think he would have it at its best? They even had another bike next to it with the speakers but w/out the amp so you could hear the difference. My 2 buddies who had never heard of them before commented on how bad it sounded at full or near full volume when we walked away.

I've been in your shop and meet you before when I bought my JM speakers but the bike didnt have the amp at that time.

That was probably too much bass and may have depended on how much bass the song had as well. I wasn't there, so I can't really say, because we haven't experienced any distortion at all so far no matter what song we have tried.

Yes, I remember you very well. Come on by and you can hear how the speakers sound with the amp with a more accurate demonstration.

Hey Shawn: I just want to confirm that my XM Radio Kit has its own antenna under the fairing; and, therefore, I can remove the antenna at the rear of my bike without impacting my XM Radio reception? Of course, by removing the rear antenna, I won't be able to get any AM or FM reception; but I don't plan to listen to AM or FM anyway. Thanks.

Mike
