I will install the amp in my 2010 on Monday and will verify that there are no problems hopefully. I will post results here. Thanks for sharing that info its good to know about a known problem and that your aware of it. I also will use the ball tipped allen wrench trick I learned cause of DR VTWIN for mounting the bracket

Thanks for chiming in and thank you for emailing me back so quickly on your day off, especially being that you are attending Arizona bike week. I guess you are working!

I hope you find the problem in the Harley factory wiring that is causing this issue on certain 2009 Street Glides. I will see what Jeff K.'s buddy's 2009 Street Glide's production build date is as that could be a factor. It may have been a Harley factory defect in the wiring for a certain month/year build. The assembly line worker may have been "off" his/her game when they build 2009 Street Glides for that specific month.

Al's 2009 Street Glide and my 2009 Street Glide both work fine and both of our bikes were built 09/08. If we can trace the defect to a certain month/year, we can easily alert amp buyers of the potential issue and the fix before they attempt the install.

If installed as per the instruction sheet, there are two wires from the Harley harness for powering the speakers, or should I say four wires, + - left and + - right. These plug into the speakers from new. These same wires would plug into the feed for the amp. How could the Harley harness affect this. It is the same wire to the input on the amp. as to the speakers?

Thank you! I would like to start investigating this in case it is a Harley factory defect that only affects a small portion of the 2009 Street Glides out there that were maybe built in the same month. Who knows because it doesn't make sense that the J&M would work on most 2009 Street Glides and then not on a few others.

Can we get an idea of how much power draw this amp requires vs the output of the on-board alternator (plus the draw of other on-board consumers of DC power)? In other words, will using this set-up on an extended ride result in a depleted battery?
 
Hey Shawn: Once this problem gets resolved, then we can move forward to have you guys install the amp in my 2009 Street Glide. I'm not in any big rush; so I would just as well wait until all the bugs are worked out. My big ride is the first week of June.

I installed the J&M amp, speakers and antenna on a 08 Streetglide last night. The install is pretty straight forward and went pretty smooth. Just a couple of observation....
It was much easier to remove the tank to run the main power wires on this 08. Unlike previous model years, the wire track is on top of the main frame
(instead on one along each side of the frame) and is just loaded with wires. I don't believe I would even want to try to fish a fish tape through there as it is highly probable to do some damage as there are some pretty small wires in there.
As far as mounting the amp and bracket on the stock unit, I ended up taking the fasteners off of both fairing brackets and removing the mounts that hold the wire harness to both sides of the stock HK unit as it gave me a bit more room to work. I then used a small ratcheting box wrench with a allen bit through the end of the wrench. That worked fine on three of the four screws and for the fourth I used a ball end allen. It actually went very quickly like that.
When hooking up the speakers, the wire colors in the instructions did not match what I had on the bike but it is very easy to figure out as the amp is labeled.
I think the most difficult part of the install was trying to peel the backing off of the foam pieces that attach to the outer fairing shell. I believe I might have made up a couple of new words with that step.
I wanted to listen to just the speakers without the amp but in the process of hooking everything up I guess I forget all about it.
When done, I fired up the system and was very pleased. This thing rocks! If you need more than this while sitting on the bike you are a better man than I. As it was I had to change my t-shirt (Thanks Dr-V Twin for including the Black T) because my ears bled all over the one that I was wearing. I was inside a garage and no kidding this thing will hurt you.
All in all I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Thanks to everyone on the forum for your input on these speakers and amp and to Dr. V Twin for the Great service. As soon as I get to use the new antenna for a while I will chime in on the end result of its reception.

We should have more amps back in stock sometime this week. As I mentioned earlier, the amps we installed on both mine and Al's 2009 Street Glides worked just fine, so this may be a small issue on maybe a few 2009 Street Glides out there. I really doubt this will be a widespread issue.

Thanks for the feedback on the install and we are glad you are enjoying the ear drum bleeding sound that we are also enjoying on our bikes! Amazing sound out of these speakers when the amp powers them.
