J&M 7.25 Speaker Review

Well, I decided to go w the J&M 250w amp and I can now say the 7.25s sound great. It sucks you have to buy an amp, but everything sounds loud and clear now. I'm also going to add the HT Tweeter pod, because the highs are still lacking. I would recommend to anyone considering the 7.25s to FOR SURE buy the amp for a sound upgrade over stock, I hated the stock radio/7.25s w/o an amp.

Izzo, I have the same set up as you, plus rear speakers and a CB. I too want the bigger amp. I already swapped my front and rear HT's for the J&M 7.25 and 5.25, major improvement. That 250 amp would be the icing on the cake.

Anyone know how I can fit 2 amps and a CB or is it possible to remove the CB since its not used anyway.

Thanks

The amp comes with a bracket to mount the CB under the stereo. As for the second amp, i am sure it can be fit with a little time and patience.

When you order the amp it comes with a bracket to move the cb and xm radio underneath the head unit. If you're not going to use the cb, I don't see any reason why you couldn't use the bracket to mount an additional amp under the head unit where you would normally put the cb and xm units. I don't know how well your charging system would hold up with two amps drawing from it though. If you read above, it sounds like J & M are working on a 500 watt 4 channel amp that would give you the same amount of watts all the way around, at 125 per channel.

I don't think there's any difference at all between the SG, and any other batwing, and while I didn't try to install the lower bracket since I don't have a cb or xm, I don't see why they would send you the bracket if it doesn't fit. I'm sure it must or they wouldn't bother including them with the kit.

I run 2 of the ALpine PDX 4.150 amps. Thats 600 watts each, for a total system of 1200 watts .

Running the 'stock' battery & charging system.

BTW, digital amps use a LOT less power ......

I think he is saying that another amp will not fit under there. Not talking about the CB module. The poster asked about a second amp fitting in the fairing to power 2 more speakers. Just sayin.

I was also looking at options too for my '03 Ultra. I've had hogtunes all around, replaced them w/4 J&M single cone rears and the spearate 5.25 with J&M unique tweeter grill. I liked the J&M's for the clarity but still lacked the full "Lower" range. I DID NOT read all the 110 entries so forgive me if this has been covered before. The bass frenquencies are improved with the 7.25"? Are the frequencies down to 45hz?, 30hz?, lower? Yes its probably better than a lot of more complicated options but with my headend being 8 ohms I'm kinda screwed with limited speaker options (thanks Harley Davidson for f_cking I got with 8 ohms). I want to hear from people that have others brands besides stock and even the prior version of the 5.25" J&M like I have to tell me that it's that big of a difference to spend almost $300. I was strongly thinking of buying the 7.25" (ssshh my wife might hear) when I got laid off the Friday before my Labor Day/week's vacation (piss poor timing to lay someone off the week before your vacation in my opinion) that dream came to a screeching halt. Oh well, I guess I will wait for the 8"? or 8.5"? version when I could afford it again.
It would also be nice to make a true component 6.5" or 7.25" with a separate mid/tweeter and adjustable crossovers. The tweeters could be installed just above the speakers on or in the fairing with a few simple holes to flush mount them a little higher.
By the way, I like the way John from J&M responds to these messages. He does respond and that's nice.
Heck I could probably install a decent 4 ohm Marine rated head end unit, a good 4-CH marine amp installed in the side bag or under my travel pak, with connections properly weatherproofed of course. The possibilities with components 6.5 or 6.75, 4 ohm component car speaker with a adjustable crossover could be more advantageous . The tipping point question is $$$$ and if you want to spend for the difference or not is the question.
Thanks for reading my rants... Tull
