J&M 7.25 Speaker Review

Also, I got the amp when I purchased the speakers. It was pretty much plug&play.

I bought mine from Drew at Dr.V-Twin, but got all my support and questions answered by JMJohn.

On a side note, if I was to purchase again, I would buy from JMJohn just because when I needed questions answered he was there and didn't ask who I bought from...just provided the support I needed when I needed it right here on this forum and via email.

I just installed the new J&M 7 1/4s I got from DR V-Twin.com and I must say they are loud, but I'm not at all impressed w/ the highs. The treble adj doesn't help, there is just no crisp clear highs. Do I need to add an amp or upgrade the deck?
 
What year and model bike?

What music source are you using?

What are you treble and bass settings?

If anything the highs, mids and lows sound great with or without the amp. This is odd.

Make sure your AVC settings are off. If it's an Ultra, make sure intercom and CB are both turned OFF.

I had them on my 04 and it was an extreme upgrade over the stock system, since I changed the exhaust it looks like I'm going to have to sell these since they don't have an amp yet that runs the 8 ohms.

It's too bad as I've only had them for less than three months, but if you're going to stick with the stock HK radio I don't think there's another speaker that can compete.

You can run the J&M amp, but then you would have to take out and sell your 8 ohm speakers and purchase a set of the 2 ohm 7.25" speakers. As long as you can mount the J&M amp with heavy duty double sided velcro, you can run the J&M amp on 98-2005 touring bikes. I am sure you can easily sell the 8 ohm speakers you currently have as the 7.25" speakers are still in huge demand. If you really want amazing sound, the 7.25" speakers combined with the J&M 250 watt amp is really the way to go. I love my J&M setup and compared to the other brands I have had in the past, there is no comparison! The J&M setup blows them away.

My bike is in my sig, brand new streetglide. My factory speakers sounded ok, but just didn't get loud enough for the highway use. All I was hoping for w the J&Ms was a little better sound quality at a higher db level and I must say after a few hours yesterday I think I'm going to pull out the J&Ms. THese speakers sound like a clock radio on a bullhorn there is no mid and high sound quality!
 
Check your bass and treble settings and let me know where they are set. When cruising at highway speeds, I have bass at 3-4 bars and treble at 2-5 bars depending on the music type. I have seen a lot of guys that have the treble and bass settings set all the way to the max and you can't do that with any speaker setup.

Make sure AVC is switched off and make sure your music source is a good one. I prefer studio produced, store bought CDs as that is the best sound source. iPods and MP3 sound is often times very low quality and that greatly affects the sound quality the speakers put out.
