J&M 7.25 Speaker Review

ibbigc,

I would wait for J&M's amp to be released. J&M's new amp is being designed specifically with their 7.25" speakers in mind. Better safe than sorry. The ohms specs are what worries me. I would not run an amp with more than 2 ohms. J&M's new amp should be released during the first quarter of 2010 and we are not far from that timeframe at this time. Better safe than sorry, right?

Motown Glide,

How many ohms does your JVC headunit put out? Most aftermarket radios put out 4 ohms or more. If your JVC headunit puts out 2 ohms, you are ok to run the J&M 7.25" speakers.

Hey there Shawn(Dr. V-Twin!)!

I received my J&M 7.25" speakers yesterday evening and wanted to say "Thank You!". Now I'm waiting for the lighted speaker rings from JM John before I install them. I'm very excited to try these speakers out, thats for sure.

You were right, the V-Twin shirt is very nice too... great add for my t-shirt riding collection.

Also,

The PM wheel deal is still alive, just have a few things to take care of before I pull the trigger on buying. You were very helpful through all of this and I really appreciate the instant responses you sent. I don't think I have ever experienced the level of customer service as you have provided in these last couple days.

We'll be in touch,

Thanks again,

Tim S.

Thank you very much! Your words mean a lot to us. We do our best to ensure that everyone gets the fastest response from us. As consumers ourselves, we hate waiting for email responses from companies and we don't want you guys waiting any longer than you should have to. Just let me know what else I can do for you!

We are here to help!

Thanks again!

Shawn ,,,,,

don't mean to butt in again ,,,, but radios or amps do not put out ohms, they put out power and current to a speaker,,,,

a speaker's ohm rating only has to do with it's impedance (specific load) that an amplifier will see ,,,,

ANY automotive/motorcycle amplifier ever made will work fine with a speaker with an impedance rating of 8 ohms ,,, most amplifiers will work fine with a speaker impedance load of 4 ohms ,,,, and most late model amplifiers will work with a speaker impedance load as low as 2 ohms ,,,,

the lower the speaker impedance #, the more current/power the amplifier will put out thru the speaker ,,,,, that simple ,,,,,

in summary, the 2 ohm versions of J&M's 7.25" speakers will work with almost any amplifier or radio that can handle a 2 ohm load without overheating ,,,, and that includes the Arc Audio mini, both of the Biketronics amps, and just about every single automotive type amplifier we have tested around here lately ,,,,

in fact, the Arc Audio mini ran for 7 straight days, wide open full volume into a set of the J&M 2ohm 7.25" speakers without any problems at all ,,,,, no worse for the wear after 7 straight days ,,, both the amp and the speakers were still in perfect shape ,,,

JMJOHN,

Any specs, ohm rating, pricing or ETA available on your new upcoming amp? I think this is the most frequent question we get asked at Dr. V-Twin. I probably answer at least 10 or more phone calls, PMs and emails with this one question from Harley touring riders.

Everyone seems to want more power! I sure do too!

Thanks!

JMJOHN and DR.V-TWIN,

I just finished installing my 7.25" J&M's and the LED light rings in my Street Glide... These sound fantastic for being in such a tight spot! I have to keep reminding myself that this is a bike and not like a car's sound system. I believe these have the best sound out of all speakers I have heard thus far. Amp? I would be shocked that this would make a huge improvement over something that sounds this good. For over 20 years I have been customizing vehicles and installing crazy audio systems... considering this is just a speaker upgrade, I am impressed for sure.

The LED light rings are a nice little addition to round out the speaker install. They help tie in the dash lighting no matter how you see it. I didn't opt for any gauge light changes for now because I'm looking to upgrade all my gauges to the Screaming Eagle setup in the early springtime. I have them set at the same color as the radio for now, it adds contrast to the existing lighting.

There will be a more in-depth review to follow this post on the J&M Led speaker rings in the very near future...

Just wanted to thank both Shawn(Dr. V-twin and JMJOHN) for the incredible customer service and products I will have no problem recommending to all my fellow riders out there. Tuesday I will be making a trip to my local HD dealership so they can "hear" the difference in person compared to the HogTunes they have been so pushy about selling me... Absolutely "no regrets" on these speakers! Folks, ya gotta check them out!
