J&M 7.25 Speaker Review

I've personally heard a pair of older 5.5 speakers...they did indeed have some great clairity. I would imagine with the larger cone/magnent , the 7.25 would be even better. In addition, I would further assume with some additional juice provided by an amp, they would retain their clairity at higher volume without the chance of distortion caused the by head unit starting to clip. I would suspect, and not surprised that some folks would not like them...guess they just waited a little longer before posting :-)

every ones ears are different what sounds good to someone may not sound good to someone elese. if you go to a car audio store and listen to all the speakers they have on the board they will all sound alittle different. even the ones that are the same size. the J&M speakers I think are the best you can get with out an amp. I heard them at reno I did not think they sounded all that great seemed like they had to much mid range but I dont want to put an amp in so I my go with the J&M they are louder than stock

John,

I hope you don't take offense to me asking this but; Why do manufactures, not just J&M, compete againt their distributers/retailers?

I was in a local store here the other day and spoke with a Tuker Rocky rep and while he said he knows it goes on they are not happy about it.

Anyhow, not trying to be disrespectful; I just don't understand why a manufacture would do that and even discount the MSRP by 10%. If you sold at full retail I might unserstand it better.

PTAG ,,,,

you ask a very good question ,,,,, now I will get directly to the point ,,,,

when we spend the $$ to send the J&M audio trailer to a show or rally, we cannot afford to have a customer come to our demo, listen to the J&M product, then go to a supposedly supporting dealer or distributor, only to find the J&M product they want is not in stock, the sales people there know little if anything about it (and don't want to know), their customer service is so poor the customer walks away without buying anything OR the dealer/distributor talks the customer into another brand, for any number of reasons ,,,,

SOooo ,,, J&M offers a 10% discount at the shows to help offset the sales tax the customer must pay and also to insure that we take good care of OUR customers and not trust that to someone else who may not care as much as we do ,,,,

I was not meaning to bash the speakers at all. Most people listening to them did like them. I have been waiting to listen to them since I've heard so much positive on this forum. Maybe my expectations were too high. I'm just saying that yes they are loud. I adjusted the head unit and to me they sound flat. I think it is the HK head unit. I have an 07 SEUC with Hodtunes speakers and they are loud but flat also. I listened to the Hogtunes display at Las Vegas HD the day before. They had 4 speakers running with fairing mount tweeters with a Hogtunes amp which did sound better than the stock setup. I guess I figured with the power the HK head unit puts out it sound better. I did notice the small magnet the J&M 7.25 speakers and wondered if that had anything to do with the sound. Does anyone know of an equilizer that will work on the HK with the vibration of a Harley? If you want loud speakers the 7.25's will work great.

WildThang I was one of the testers for the new speakers and I can assure you they sound good. Given your location you are in luck. I see you live in Bonair, GA. I live about 10 miles away. PM me and I will let come to the house or meet you somewhere and let you listen to them. That is the least I can do for John at J&M. That way you can justify your purchase.

I stopped by DR VTWIN today and he let me listen to the speakers he had installed on a SG in the showroom. Im a novice when it comes to all this Audio stuff on bikes but they sounded great to me.

I bought a pair, drove home and installed them. I "really hate" the look of the JM grille so I transfered the mesh that covered the original speaker over to the new ones so they still look stock.

I played a few songs in the garage and it sounds WAY better than stock but without having anything to compare it to I have no idea what it sounds like compared to a bike with an amp.

They said there is a 2 ohm amp that is supposed to come out soon that I can use with them if I want. I will have to wait to see how much it is and how good these sound on the road before I decide.

The verdict is in. Several have been "bugging" me about the testing I promised (probably a few pages back now...) and the package came in this afternoon. Fairly extensive testing (within reason - Normally I'm used to very tight acoustic control, which isn't exactly present in my garage) and the results (some objective, some subjective) are on my blog:

Long story short - Go buy 'em before they run out.

Put up the basic info, pink noise spectral analysis, etc. I have recordings of the whole thing (pink, 1kHz tone, steady tones from 20-140Hz in 10dB increments, 20-20kHz sweeps - all on both stock and the J&M's), but I've not had the time (nor will I over the next several days at least) to do anything with them. Needless to say, the J&M's were pretty impressive... I'd be happy to answer anything specific if needed.

Not a paid endorsement - Just a guy (who happens to be an audio engineer by trade) who bought speakers.

Blog was very well written. Thanks for the evaluation. We just got a new shipment of these speakers in today and they are selling very quickly. If you are on the fence, get your order in with us before they sell out...again!

Retail on these speakers are: $279.95.

DR. V-TWIN FORUM MEMBER Price is still $235.00 shipped which is the lowest price you will find on these speakers anywhere...guaranteed!

Thanks!

Shawn

JS, Been waiting for your report and this is EXACTLY what I was hoping to hear from you. Especially since I already went ahead and bought these along with the new 5 1/4 rears from Shawn, (Doc V-Twin) yesterday.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to put that comprehensive report together. Opinion is one thing, but a non-biased professional opinion along with fact based back-up is golden. Great Job!!

Can't wait for the UPS girl to get here!!
