J&M 7.25 Speaker Review

I'm very interested in these speakers, but like many here, I'm looking for some real specs on the product. At 2 ohms my ARC amp will put out 125 watts of power.

The J&M speakers are rated at 140 MAXIMUM or PEAK. This refers to the amount of power that a speaker can handle during a brief musical burst.

RMS power handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle on a continuous basis.

I'm looking for information on how much power (in numbers) these speakers are rated to handle on a continuous basis.

For example: Infinity Reference 6030CS 6.5 (2ohm) component speakers are rated at 270 watts peak power and from 2-90 watts RMS.
 
the mini i am very happy with!!! the speakers , i`m still looking for my sound. everyone hears things different. i havent found mine yet.

i want to be able to turn it almost all the way up without hearing any distortion of the sound, or becoming muddy. they are loud. and sound perfect until i really crank it up.
 
I believe it is going to be difficult to crank any 6.5 coaxial speaker without distorting the speaker if you are looking for bass. I will say this it will be dependent were you have the settings on the amp and the bass and treble settings on the head unit. In my car I have close to 4k in the audio set up. Two years ago my MB Quart 6.5 components needed to be replaced and I replaced them with Boston Acoustic Pro60's and I am now thinking about replacing the Boston's with Hertz due to the Boston's being a very bright speaker to my ears. Most installers will set the crossover at 100 or 120 HZ at least the ones I have spoken with for the front component speakers. The higher the setting on the crossover the less bass response (I hope I worded it correctly). The sub in the rear of the vehicle will provide the bass. I can control the crossover settings from the front of the vehicle and I have placed the crossover on 80hz which has provided more bass response to the front speakers but if I start cranking the stereo I have to increase the crossover to 100hz. About four or five years ago I had a chance to listen to the MB Quart QSD-216 component speaker at Tweeter (Before they want out of business) by themselves and that speaker did a good job handling the bass but at a price of $1,200 for the set. Now I do not prefer the bright tweeter of the MB Quarts.

My opinion is that a 6.5 coaxial speaker can only handle so much bass.

In my Road Glide I have the Hog Tune speakers and they were a improvement over the stock speakers. I keep the bass and treble settings one bar over half. I wear a full face helmet and the only time it is difficult to hear is when I am on the highway driving at 80 mph. With that said I am looking again to replace the speakers to increase the bass response. With me I will only spend so much money since I believe the motorcycle is a poor platform for audio modifications. So I will be reading the reports on the new J&M speakers before I make my decision.

I have put in a request with J&M for RMS wattage. I will post as soon as I find out. I may post this info in the thread we as Dr. V-Twin started. This is not our thread, so it is hard for us to answer questions on these speakers in someone else's thread. We don't want to hijack anyone's thread.

Hey ranman I just installed the J&M speakers last night. They sounded good in the garage. I'll be checking them out riding today. I'm right down the road from you in Mesa if you want to hear them.
