I've stopped eating a lot of sugar, is there a problem?

Over a long period of time lets say an year and a half. I have been eating less and less sugar and my metabolism has gone down. What are the long term and short term consequences?
I use to have an incredibly high metabolism and was athletic. Now I am lethargic and what not.

Will I get diabetes? Will I ever get back the fast natural metabolism?
