I just want to season it with olive oil, salt and pepper. I don't know how long to cook it for! It's a bonless top loin strip steak (Whatever that means) and it's about 3/4 of an inch thick. I want to know how to cook it BOTH ways! I like my steak between medium rare and medium. (Just a little pink for flavor and juiciness!) I've been getting answers from "2 minutes on each side" to "total of 12-16 minutes" COME ON! I don't want a cold, rare steak but I don't really have the appetite for a leathery shoe either! Help!
1. If I broil it, how long should I broil it for? I should flip it, right? About halfway?
2. If I make it in a skillet (I don't have a cast iron skillet, but mine is pretty heavy) then should I put olive oil in the pan as well, even though I already have it on the steak? I know I should wait till the pan is VERY hot (smoking) but then I'm lost with how long I should leave it on each side?
P.S. What's YOUR preference on how to cook it? Some say, "if you broil your steak, it will be tough!" while OTHER'S say, "Broiling steak is the only way to get it juicy!" So which one is it!?!?
I was told to never flip a steak more than once, and to never cut it open because it will lose all the juicy flavor- check it's "doneness" by how "squishy" it is?
P.s. I don't have a grill
