hi people Ive made an html layout but dont know how to add it to a site. call me deluded but im a bit of a beginner at this. thanks

In every kind of text editor you have a button to enter your text in "code" form. When you scroll over it that's what will appear, or something like "HTML text". When you enter it there and submit your text (given that the code is correct), you should get what you want. But it depends on what kind of site you're working with.
 
you use an FTP client to do copy your files to the server. Filezilla is one such FTP client.

you want your edit, settings, transfers, file exists action, upload to be overwrite. download should be ask because you don't want to clobber your source files automatically accidentally.

you will need to print out and file the settings emailed to you by your hosting company. they have your ftp username and password and server address.
