I've had a UTI (urinary tract infection) for the last few months..?

Hey! :D
I'm 15 years old and about I don't know, July/August of 2010 or perhaps earlier I started getting the symptoms of a UTI, stinging/burning when urinating, need to go all the time but then not a lot coming out etc. and I asked my mum to take me to the doctors but she thought it was nothing so we left it.

Anyway, is it normal for a UTI to feel like it's coming and going? Because between say July 2010 and February 2011, not every single day has been painful for me to urinate, like it comes and goes. Anyway, I went to the doctors just the other day and he asked me how long I'd had these symptoms, I said a few months and he was really shocker, so he took a urine sample for urinalysis - what are the chances of a kidney infection after a few months, nearly half a year of an on and off UTI? Or at least it felt on and off.

I've had no fever, but for the last week I've had pain in my left side, where my kidney is located, so that's when mum decided to finally take me to the doctor.

Anyway, just to break it down:

. is it normal for a UTI to feel on and off? Do they cure themselves and then come back or was it there for the whole 6-7 months?

. what are the chances of a bladder/kidney infection, even though I've only just had pain in my side?

I've always had a good immune system, never get colds, haven't thrown up since I was 8 etc. so would my body be able to hid the symptoms or what?

Thank you! :D
*** I HAVE BEEN TO THE DOCTORS! ****

On Monday (today is Saturday in Australia) I get the results back from the urinalysis. Please READ the question.

I am looking for answers too:

Thank you. :)
