what is the difference between blue , white , and black smoke coming out of a tail pipe.... and on top of that the same goes for steam.... of course steam comes from water but it it is a dry time and not humid or cold what would cause steam out of a car.......

Blue-- usually associated with oil burning in the combustion chamber. Probably worn piston rings.

White-- coolant burning. Blown head gasket or cracked head usually.

Black-- fuel related.

steam part you got me.

Blue-- usually associated with oil burning in the combustion chamber. Probably worn piston rings. Could also be valves seats if the smoking occurs in the first minute or so after starting.

White-- coolant burning. Blown head gasket or cracked head usually.

Black-- fuel related (or when you get on it hard)

As for steam....sounds like you are talking about either condensation smoke or a heater core problem.
