which is about a foot deep....but....because it was just given to me by a friend (it wasn't shop bought!!) i have no idea how much water it will hold in litres.

It already came with the water and everything I need to get started (I've had to do a water treatment and everything so there are no fish in)

It IS ready for the fish to go in though as it's been settling for the past 2 weeks as advised.
Problem is, the fish I'm looking at all say they need to be in a tank of a certain size and there aren't any measurements in feet or anything to go by, only how many litres of water needed for them to live comfortably!
Does anybody have the same sort of size tank and know the amount of water it will hold please?

Thanks!

I think personally, today, or whenever, you should measure the length, you already have the depth, and record it. Then go into a pet store, and you should be able to match it up with a similar tank, of which the people can tell you how much it holds.
Good luck<3

Are you sure it is only a foot deep? I have never seen a tank that is that shallow. My guess would be anywhere from 70-90 gallons, which is 264-340 liters. Though usually those tanks are a lot deeper then just one foot...so maybe cut that in half. If you do not know the amount already in the tank, the best way is to re-do the tank and just count liters as You put them in. It is tedious, but in order to get Your water at the right PH levels, and right hardness, right ammonia levels, and right nitrite and nitrate levels, you need to know the exact amount of water in your tank.

I am a tropical fish keeper. Do you realise how much time, work and patience this is going to cost you? Marine fish keeping is extraordinarily difficult and time consuming. It takes weeks to even get the tank ready for this fish then they have to go into a holding tank before transferring to your tank. This is not something you should enter into lightly

If, on the other hand, you are aware of all this then you should ask a LOT of questions at the shop where you are going to buy the fish from. In my experience they are the best people to ask. There are also countless numbers of web sites that can help.

Please be careful - fish are not toys!
