I've been wondering about posture and which is the best way for one to sit.?

My friend told me that sitting up straight is good for you and can make your abdominal muscles and back muscles stronger. So i figure, why not get into a habit that will be good for me, all i need to do is sit up straight. After about the third day of sitting up straight in most of my classes i noticed my back was sore, mostly lower back. so then i just stopped sitting up straight, not really because of the back pain but because have you ever tried sitting up straight for long periods of time daily?

I tried looking online for an answer but there is no .edu site that has a clear answer, it doesn't seem to be a big topic. I was wondering if there were any scientist out there that have done a legitimate study/research/test or just know what the best posture is for sure.

I simply think that humans were not meant to sit for such long periods of time.
