would be satisfied with GIMP? So my friend has CS5 everything (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, everything) and I've gotten pretty used to using everything on a daily basis.
Now that I've spread my wings and flying on my own I need a solution similar to those products. I can't afford CS5 and since I regularly jumped between programs I'd pretty much have to get none or all (even Indesign).
1) Would I really even be satisfied with GIMP? I know there's a large following for it, but anything freeware is going to have diehard followers who blind themselves to facts just to defend open source. So I can't trust those and I can't trust elitest Adobe users. I know it's not going to be as good, but for someone who can't afford the real thing would it even be worthwhile or just save up?
2) What are the freeware programs to match those I listed - InDesign and Illustrator? I've heard Scribus is like InDesign but same question above, is it worth it if you've been using InDesign? Same for Illustrator - what is the freeware and is it good?
Thanks for all your help. And no, I don't make money off any designs so trying to sell some off to reinvest in CS5 wouldn't be an option. Not that good...yet.
