I am driving less--trying to combine trips and/or do without. We have already done some energy-efficiency measures to the house, but I am trying to be more careful about leaving lights on and setting the thermostat, etc. I am doing as much shopping and bill-paying as I can online to save on trips to stores, postage, etc. We have just about completely given up eating out at restaurants, and I scrimp and save on groceries every way I can. I hardly ever pay full retail for clothes and other household goods if I can help it--I shop sales, outlets, garage sales, thrift stores, etc. or do without.
We are also growing a pretty large vegetable garden this year and hope to have enough for ourselves as well as to share with relatives/friends or possibly barter for other goods and services. This fall, my husband will likely kill a deer and/or a wild hog which we can use for meat for the family, and we have also considered purchasing a cow or other livestock to raise for our own use. At this point, it wouldn't be cheaper than buying meat in the store, but at some point it would start to be cost-effective, especially if we could breed a pair and sell the offspring.
All our autos are paid off and we don't have a lot of debt other than home mortgage and rent property mortgage which are at very good rates, so hopefully we will be in good shape. If I do purchase another vehicle, I plan to try and find one that is either a hybrid or significantly will improve the fuel economy over our current vehicles.
