I've been ill so many times

Last year, in summer, I kept having mild cold symptoms. They really were mild, nothing much to complain about. I kept having fevers as well throughout the summer and they came on suddenly, leaving me feeling quite ill. They'd pass really quickly though, so again, I didn't complain. I reckon I had about 30 of these fevers through the summer. Then, my colds got worse and turned into what the doctor called classic flu. My flu came in November but I didn't get diagnosed with flu until Jan this year. I wasn't given any prescription medicines or anything. They just told me plenty of fluids and rest - however, as I work part time, I can't really get any rest. In January I started getting considerably worse, coughing up green phlegm and coughing so hard I was heaving. My fevers were still there but they were worse. My temperature was almost 40 degrees one night and I was hallucinating as well. I've had severe headaches, blocked up nose, nausea, ear-ache, sore throat, I've had the lot. I've gotten through packets of pain-killers, to calm my fevers and get rid of the aches, drank plenty of fluid, ate vegetables, got plenty of sleep at night. The only thing I haven't eaten a lot of is red meat, which I've heard is good for you. But I'm not particularly that keen on it.

I was diagnosed with a heart murmur through all of this, as well and am waiting to get a scan done of my heart at the hospital. I have no idea whether it is something wrong with my heart that is causing all these symptoms or whether this illness is just causing a strain on my heart. I've been having palpitations, chest pain, shortness of breath, feeling weak etc.

As if all this wasn't bad enough, I recently caught the nasty 'winter vomiting' bug. Now, stomach bugs are something I rarely catch, let alone the more nastier ones. I think I've caught about 3 of them in my lifetime, before this one. I'm 24.

Now I've come on my period and, as usual, it's extremely heavy and very painful. So again, I'm popping more pills to deal with the pain of that.

The weakness I've felt through all of these illnesses has been absolutely overwhelming. I've already had 4 days off work this year (and it's only Jan!) and it's a new job so I can't really afford to have any more time off. Sometimes I am so tired my speech slurs. I have trouble using my hands as they feel heavy, my legs don't want to move and I often can't think straight or concentrate very well. All I want to do is sleep and wake up feeling refreshed, but I never do.

I am wondering if I should have some blood tests taken? I'm quite worried as I have never felt so ill before, and my immune system is normally quite strong. What has gone wrong or what has developed to make my immune system so weak? My mum used to be a nurse and, as I have gone really pale, she suspects it could be anaemia. Do you think this could be the case? My doctors don't seem to want to do anything. They just loosely diagnose me with some text-book illness (like flu) and then send me on my way. The only thing I'm grateful for is the fact that they found my heart murmur. How can I make my doctors listen? There's two that I can see. The one I'm registered with and the one that covers for the one I'm registered with when he's not available. Sorry for all the questions. I'm at my wit's end, though. I'm 24. I should be enjoying my life, not feeling like this!

Thanks in advance for any help.

check your b12 level. Your doctor can do that. I would suggest an alternative doctor. an integrated doctor would be the best idea for you. They are medical doctors, but also have a lot of knowledge in the alternative field. They would help you soooo much.Adrenal fatigue and yeast would be my guess it would equate to chronic fatigue syndrome.Your diet is not working for you at all and you really need guidance and blood work to get on the right track. You can ask your insurance company for one or look up a.c.a.m in the computer and find one in your area. They will give you the blood work you need and guide you from there. You will be AMAZED at the outcome and get your life back. While you waiting for your appointment you can read a site called end-fatigue,Good luck.

I agree that yeast or chronic fatigue sounds possible. And I also agree that the thing to do is go to an alternative doctor. A naturopath if you have one in your area. They are doctors but they don't simply (treat the symptoms) as most allopaths (reg docs) do. They get to the root cause!

One thing that comes to mind is taking Vitamin D to help build your immune system. There is a video on you (tube) that is called Vitamin D prevents Cancer: Is it true? The video not only talks about the cancer benefit but the immune building benefits and the benefits of taking Vit D to ward off the Flu.
They even tell you how much to take to reach the proper blood level. And Vitamin D costs only pennies a day.

A good liquid vitamin/mineral would probably helps as well. I say liquid because most people take pills and they have binders and fillers and are not readily absorbed by the body.

Hope this helps,

I disagree with the other posters. Chronic fatigue syndrome is a rule-out condition (there are no diagnostic tests which can diagnose this) and this should not be thought as your condition until you have had extensive testing looking for other causes, since you need a proper diagnosis to ensure proper treatment. The symptoms for chronic fatigue encompass are very vague, and thus many other diagnoses can be causing your symptoms. It is all too easy to just say one has chronic fatigue and thereby hinder your care with an incorrect diagnosis. Don't fall into that trap.

What you need to do is see a specialist. Their office visits allot much more time per patient than general practitioners do. Because of this additional time, they are able to do more intense testing as well as more detailed history. It sounds like your body has been through a lot recently and you are suddenly very prone to getting sick which needs to be looked at. Make an appointment with an infectious disease doctor right away as they can get pretty booked, and good luck!

edit- also I am glad to hear you are getting a heart scan. Please ensure you are having that done as quick as you can. Sometimes infections can reside in the heart and make you feel that bad, and be the cause of the multiple fevers and pain(if that is the case you need quick treatment). I don't know what type of heart scan you are getting, but a 2d echo (ultrasound of the heart) is good to request as well if the heart scan doesn't show anything, just to be on the safe side. Please make/keep all those appointments as soon as possible so you can start getting properly treated!
