Is it worth replacing the fan or does the problem lie elsewhere which is making the fan run so fast and loud. The noise would drive you mad.
Guess what my problems sorted. I went to take out the fan and go for a new one and discovered it had been in upside down all the time. I just put it back in the right way up and hey presto noise and over running gone. I inherited the computer and as far as i know now one has touched the fan so it's been like that since it was built. I'm surprised the chip didn't fry. Thanks anyway.
