ITV Films

I have noticed that ITV have a limited ammount of films or are just showing certain films that they own rights to. The films that seem to be repeated alot are:

Thelma and Louise
Volcano
What Lies Beneath
The Bond Films
Beverly Hills Cop

They are others that may come to mind that i may post later on.

(Remember this is my view please feel free to express yours)

I'm lost about films showing on television, do the channels have to pay a lot to show a film on television? or once they have bought the rights can they show it again with paying a fee etc?

James Bond is on ITV more than Coranation street. imo both should be scrapped but thats a different thread.

They have the rights to loaRAB of new films they bought last year and the contract comes into effect either xmas or spring I think and the movies they got were, Just out of the cinema, just into the cinema and about to be released into the cinema when they got the contract. I'm sure one of the films was Harry potter 3 so whatever company made that is the one they signed up with. So definetely expect Harry Potter3 as the film of next xmas

Any film they do show is usualy cut to shreRAB and split for the news, I thought they moved the late news so as they could show drama and films without interuption, very off puting.

That tells you some of the films.

I'm sure the latest Bridget Jones is also one of them

Edit: From an ITV press release.

Major new titles for ITV include Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, ThunderbirRAB and King Kong (2005), as well as a selection of titles from NBC Universal's vast library of feature films. NBC Universal's feature film library is made up of more than 4000 titles, including such highlights as Gladiator, The Mummy, Notting Hill, and Bridget Jones's Diary.

ITV actually own a library of about 30,000 films minimum.

They choose to show us the cut to ribbons version of a few , then they sell the viewing rights to the others to other stations etc.

But I think the main reason they are not showing much of their vast library is because they are making them all available on DVD to rent . Basically as I think we all realise, these days ITV is just out to make money for its shareholders. Probably why there viewing figures are constantly dropping.

And by the way , Volcano was on last night , am I wrong or was it not on a copule of weeks ago later on at night ?

I remember Volcano being on not so long ago, unless it was on ITV2 when I watched it.

I know what you mean they are showing the same films so often you even get confused which channel they had them on and start to doubt your own sanity.

Now this week surely is a joke or a mistake. Hannibal was on ITV 2 yesterday , its on ITV 2 again tonight. I mean the same fim 2 nights running.

I could understand if it was a pure film channel then you might expect it . But it isn't it is an entertainment channel ,ITV are really taking the pi** now . They have over 30,000 films and they have to show the same one two nights running.

It makes no sense at all to us the viewer.

It sadly makes pleanty of sense to ITV. They are making money from their massive library of films by selling the viewing rights to other channels worldwide , and by trying to get us to rent them from the ITV website , as they advertise on the main page " over 30,000 titles for
