itunes wont sync iphone without sim card?!?

hey all itunes wont sync my iphone all the sudden because I dont have a sim card anylonger. I have not updated the itunes software or anything so this confuses me. I am only using my iphone as an ipod since I cant stand AT&T isnt there anyway around this problem or must I have an sim card to even listen to music?
