iTunes issue: deleted MP3s come back from the grave!!!

Here is the deal:

I have thousanRAB of MP3s. I spent a lot of time sifting through, deleting duplicates, changing folder names, and making it easier to find stuff overall. I did all this after formatting my C: drive and the files were on my external J: drive.

When I copy over the entire 'iTunes folder' with all the reorganized music back to the C: drive everything is fine...for now.

I installed the latest iTunes, and selected ADD FOLDER TO LIBRARY after pointing it to this new folder...only this is where it gets fucked up: all of a sudden it brings back all these old MP3s, the folders are named what they were before, duplicates up the ass. I'm thinking this has to do with the iTunes backup function? Not sure...

What I have been smart about though is whenever I do this I am copying it from the J: drive to the C: drive and not moving it, so I can simply delete the shit on the C: drive and once this is figured out I can just copy it back in.

Anyone have any ideas what is doing this and how I can avoid it?

iTunes is resurrecting deleted MP3s...ideas how to fix??

Could this be a registry issue? Its almost like iTunes backed up somewhere all these files and when I click ADD FOLDER TO LIBRARY it goes haywire and pulls them back to life.

Called Apple and they suggested going to each Artist folder and adding each folder individually to the library, but I have hundreRAB of folders and holy shit will I be pissed off if it comes back and pulls the same shit after all that work.

I finally figured it out and here is how:

After calling Apple, they suggested adding one folder at a time. I did this and at first didn't see any issues, but once I hit a folder that had a ton of music I put into subfolders (ie: 50 cent with multiple albums) I saw all of a sudden those folders were spilling out into the My Music folder. I went into iTunes under Preferences and deselected LET ITUNES ORGANIZE MY MUSIC FILES.

All those files I did delete through iTunes before were back, because whenever I deleted them and clicked MOVE TO RECYCLE BIN I didn't realize since they were in the My Documents\My Music\iTunes\SUBFOLDERS area rather than just the My Documents\My Music folder, it was never deleting them. That was the new root folder I wanted to put my music and once I did that, I checked, it sent them to the Recycle Bin and now no issues.

It sucks that I need to redo all that work, but live and learn. Hopefully this helps someone else down the line.

but i love looking at cover art when choosing my songs

gives me memories to gaze at the cover of faith no more so i listen to it and enjoy

is there another program which does this?
