Item sent through media mail arrived damaged....advice?

I've been sending dvds and video games through half.com for about a year now to just get rid of my collection and to raise money for college. Since I only make a couple of dollars on each item (if that) and they are not worth a lot, I never insure my package. I would never make any money by insuring every package. Also, I have sent so many packages and have never had any problems. However, I received and email from a buy who bought 3 video games. I packed them all in a large, bubbled envelop (like I always do) and the buyer said the package was damaged. Apparently one of the computer games had a puncture in the case and all the disks were broken. Another game was really scratched and the whole envelope had been punctured like 5 times. I plan on refunding the money, but is there any other option? I mean, shouldn't the post office hold some responsibility for completely destroying the package? Should I: make the buyer send back whatever is broken and I will refund the money, just trust the buyer and refund the money, or have the buyer send pictures and refund the money? Any advice will help...I don't want to make the buyer mad, because I think it is totally unfair that the package was ruined.
