It was only his grade that depended on it.

Some people can be such douchebags. I know it's hard for a college student to sometimes manage his schedule, but this is sort of ridiculous. Okay, so this is what happened to a man I'll call "Chase."

Chase is a middle-aged man, going back to school after what I'm sure has been a great while. He's getting his degree, working hard, and seems to be doing well in everything... except he can't type to save his life. Therefore, he goes to other students for help in this area.

Now Chase has a big mid-term in his Speech class coming up, and he needed this paper typed up ASAP. Originally, he made a deal with some guy to do this today. He was going to pay something like $30 AND a meal in order for this slacker to make it worth his while. I guess I'm new to this bartering system, but that seems a little steep. Close to ten dollars a page plus food?

And if that wasn't bad enough, Chase came back from the store with the guy's sandwich only to find out that said asshat was LEAVING because his work called and offered to let him work, and make more than he would helping Chase. So he basically just abandonded the poor man.

Luckily, Chase isn't shy and I was in the library today. He came over to me and asked me if I typed and if so, would it be possible for me to take over? I was happy to, and even felt a bit weird taking money for something that comes so easily to me. I mean, it was just dictation. He insisted on paying me, and I finally caved in and suggested five dollars (he gave me ten).

If someone comes to you for help (a WEEK in advance no less!), it's just assholery to back out at the very last second. Are people my age really this egocentric?

Wow, that fucker who left 'Chase' out to dry is one cold bastard. Chase and the would-be typists were two opposite examples of ethics. Chase insisted on paying what you tought was too much (but for him was worth a lot more), while the other guy bailed out on him to make a few extra bucks. It's selfishness like that which gives capitalism a bad name.

But that is normally the ways of the world, Woody. People are generally selfish when it comes to their own needs and wants, even if it means hurting others.

I would have typed the paper and went into work later. My goodness, work your ass off for money or just type 3 pages and make some easy money? Hell, he could have done both. That was a really shitty thing to do.

Now, this "Chase" guy should work on his typing skills. Even if he has a college degree, some people won't hire him if he can't type worth a shit. There are lots of programs online. I dunno. You did a nice thing stepping in like that.
