It takes ages for my camera to take a photo?

I recently bought a 10 megapixel camera and when I hold the button down it takes a really long time to take a picture compared to my camera before.

This is a bit of a pain especially when your trying to take pics spontaneously.

Anything I can do? ... Like does the ISO, what type of flash or scenes have anything to do with how long you have to hold the shutter for?
