I am setting up a sever for a client that has a small business of 15-20 people. I was wondering whether to go with Apple or Windows based server. Yes I know I went to college for this but I want some feed-back on this because this is one of my first IT jobs were i have a nearly unlimited budget. I was planning to go with Apple. Here is what I came up with:
Mac Pro-
Two 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
16GB memory
4TB hard drive
Dual-channel 4Gb Fibre Channel PCI Express card
Mac OS X Server
Xsan 2
Price Quote: $7,547.00
At each desk there would be a 24" Apple LED Cinema Display and wired full Apple Keyboard and Wired Mouse.
Price Quote: Around $15,000
Overall the cost would be around $25,00 to $27,000 with all the maintenance and extra software. The small business is a creative designer based company so Apple would easily be the best choice for the business. And with the Apple Cinema display it would be easy for the colleagues to connect their Apple Macbooks directly to the monitor and then also share data between the Airport Extreme and Time Machines with files from their own laptops. So I believe going with an Apple configuration would be best. Is there anything better out there to support a small business of designers?
