Issues with droid Verizon Motorola and notifications and emails and text messages?

I have on my droid, my gmail, work, and hotmail accounts...three different icons treated as their own "button"
My issue is not with notifications specifically...I know you can turn the notificaiton off for either the text messages or the email accounts...I get that.

my issue is this...
i want text messages by themselves. I dont want email notificaitons mixed in with text messages.
That is my first issue.
The second is, lets say an email comes in to my gmail.
I get a noticiation. so i open and see it there. Lets say I want to delete it...i have to delte first in the notifications, then i have to go to my gmail account on the droid and delete it there.
Every email I want to delete, I have to delete it twice...once on the notificaitons, and again on the email.

Makes no sense...how do I get around this.
