Isn't the second commandment fertile ground for intolerance and violence?

By the second commandment I am referring to 'Thou shalt not have other gods before me'.
Now I grant you that commandment is not, by itself, violent or threatening in any way.
But I ask, if you have an exclusionary foundation such as this for your religion, doesn't that, in theory, make the followers of your religion more likely to be intolerant towards others?

In your answer, please don't mention 'the truth'. You don't know the truth, period.
