Ischial Bursitis/Weavers Bottom

After several years, numerous doctors and finally a wonderful rheumotologist who was willing to stick with me until we found answer, I have a diagnosis. The key was having an MRI of my S/I joint. I had already had an MRI of my hip/pelvis but it showed nothing abnormal. The specific s/i joint MRI showed that I had bone spurs in my joint. There is not a lot that can be done other than to treat the pain. Apparently, surgery to remove the bone spurs in this area is not something easily or frequently done. On the up side, there is the possibility that the bone spurs could wear down and become less sensitive over the years. I chose not to try injections because I have never heard of a single person who has had them and it has worked. I was given vicodin to take when the pain flares up. Once I got the pain level down and then eventually gone, I have remained relatively pain free. I practice yoga and have learned to use some adjustments to prevent aggravating the joint and have found that yoga in general makes me feel better. Now, I generally only have pain when I over exert myself with something like walking for a long period (I haven't checked into what type of tennis shoe I might need to help keep my joint aligned but I think that might help). When the pain returns, I can get it quickly relieved with a small dose of vicodin ~ usually only 1 tablet. It is just so wonderful to have an answer!! a diagnosis!!! I feel for everyone with this issue and these symptoms. I know it is so incredibly frustrating to continue to be told that everything looks normal and have doctors brush you off. Hang in there and continue to search for the answer that is right for you.

I don't understand the difference. Is it where the camera positions itself? Since you're lying in the same position in the chamber no matter what, I know it's hard to tell where the rays are being shot through you to pick up an image. But, did they give you an explanation? The SI is a part of the hip/pelvis region, so why wouldn't a hip/pelvis MRI pick it up? Mine was done so long ago that I don't know what area they were shooting, other than hip.
As for doing more, there is a doc in NC who removes tailbones for those who need it. I can't remember his name, but he was apparently the only one in the country doing it. It seems he'd be qualified and willing to remove bone spurs, if anyone is. By now, he may have retired, as I'd heard he was considering retirement a few years ago when I first heard about him. However, there was a younger doc training under him, so there should still be someone doing it.

.................Oh, okay. I just did a search. It's Dr. Dickerson in Charlotte. Do a search for him or for coccyx removal surgery.

I have a lot of joint pain and have had some surgeries and exercise such as yoga really helps. We bought a temperpedic mattress and that also helps.
I also wear Goodnighties sleepwear which is the only ionized sleepwear I could
find in the US that really helps me reach the deep sleep and not wake so often so I feel better in the morning. They only have ladies though but it is great!
