is working the cash register unavoidable when working at a clothing store?

I'm wondering if I could only greet customers, help customers find what they're looking for, and fold clothes if I worked at a clothing store? Or would I have to occasionally ring people up? I really don't like using cash registers, but I want to work at a clothing place. Is working the register impossible to avoid?

Thank you for your help.

I've worked at a few different clothing stores and the managers typically send you where you are needed, so everyone should know how to use a cash register. However, if you are a much better sales person than cashier, they will be more likely to put you on the sales floor rather than behind a register. You can't avoid the register completely, but once you get used to working there it really is not hard. Plus, the floor behind the register usually has extra padding so its a nice break for your feet :)
