My son is 16, he's due to have all 4 wisdom teeth out Jan 6th, he's on 3 week Christmas break starting Monday(today is Saturday), the oral surgeon says he has no roots on any of them, they aren't impacted, but his mouth is too small to accomodate them. He had braces for 2 years for over crowding, but we are both so freaked out over this procedure I'm thinking of cancelling. He's going to have an IV, which will put him in a "twilight sleep", I was told by the oral surgeon down time to recover 3-5 days, I've heard nothing but horror stories about his surgery, and if it's not necessary I'm putting my only child through it!
I am wondering if any teens out there have experienced this, and what exactly it was like? The oral surgeon says it's 1 hour start to finish because his will be like normal extractions due to the fact the roots are not developed. How do they know for sure they ever will? And, if his teeth did erupt, how does the oral surgeon know they will cause him problems? I know a few people that have all of theirs and never had any issues with them.
It's just really got my son in a huge panic, as well as myself, he's a very nervous child as is, this will just make him much worse. So, if anyone out there has gone through this surgery please share your story. My time in making the final decision is ticking away. Thank you!
