is using blackberry messanger abroad free?

well as the question asks is it free to use abroad? im going to the caribbean for christmas and my girlfriend Mauritius with our first and last weeks over lapping, and we wanna be able to talk both have blackberry's and are wondering if free to chat abroad on them away from britain on the Messenger? thanks guys
 
It depends on the terms of your phone contract. It will use data, and unless you pre-purchase data plans for where you are going, you could end up with a HUGE bill, just having the Blackberry phone turned on, even if you don't "think" you are using data. Blackberry devices have a HUGE amount of data that flows back and forth simply being turned on. The blackberry email server is going to be constantly polling your devices to "keep in touch" with them, and that could rack up a huge international roaming data bill.
