Is tucking in polo's really "business casual" required?

Now I have been working at my current company for about 5 years now. I work in a high level position "IT Systems/Network Engineer" and have weekly meetings with high levels of the company (CTO, CIO, CEO, and others higher like the holding company of the company). Now this is not a small company, has over 7000 employees total.

Now I have never worn my polo shirt tucked in. Ever. I have never ever been approached by my manager, or anyone else in the company saying I had to tuck in my shirt. I tried the tuck, but it not only looks dumb on me, it feels so awkward and I cannot stand it one more second.

The reason I am asking this question is because I am looking for another job and I know in the interview process, I would tuck in my shirt for those couple of hours, and of course not wear a polo, but a nicer dress shirt, etc... Is it really required to tuck in a shirt? I mean I can see the "business casual" as being nice dress shoes, dress pants/khakis, polo shirt etc... but I think the having to tuck it in is dumb. Do you think most companies out there would let me go (i.e. fire, layoff, whatever you want to call it) me as an employee because I refused to tuck in my shirt?

Now like I said, I am working with very high level people, in a very large company and have never been approached. But I heard stories from my friend who works at Target, and got laid off because he did not tuck in his shirt... but followed dress code besides that.
