Is too much track time bad for the bike?

My gf and I were having a discussion about tracking - in terms of the condition of a bike after use, would it be better to have a bike that has been tracked, but well taken cared vs a bike that just remains on the street and is maintained? My logic is that the harder the engine is run, the better the engine will perform. This is the case with cars (challenge stadale, superleggera, etc).

Any opinions?

Thanks

PS: I have never ridden a bike in my life.

In general a mechanical engine is going to loosen up with use due to less friction with the internal parts working together more efficiently. However I'd say that that's only to a certain point, eventually you'll go from broken in and loosened up to worn out and any kind of performance oriented riding/driving is going to get it there quicker.

Hello I'm the GF. We are thinking of getting a used bike and we were discussing whether it mattered if a bike has been tracked a lot. My logic is that if a bike has been tracked a lot it will have been pushed really hard and worn out. So, I much rather be the one breaking in the bike. Ideally I would want a brand new bike but $$ is I'm only a college student. My BF is a car guy and I'm into bikes.

IMO all things being equal you're correct and that's exactly why i rarely buy used bikes. I take it you're looking at buying a Ducati?

I've been riding since I was 16. I was going to pull the trigger on an 848 several times but now it seems fiscally unfeasible. I've only ridden Japanese bikes. My last bike was stolen *cries*. So now i'm looking to replace it with something cheap. I've never owned a used bike (thanks to my Daddy) and I am really not happy about buying a used bike but a used bike is better than no bike. My goal is to be able to afford a Ducati at one point but it seems that Ducatis depreciate much better than Japanese bikes so for now I am just vicariously living the Ducati lifestyle through this forum. I've been ghosting this forum for 2 years now.
